Get Ready for School with a Dental Exam

It’s August, and you know what that means – back to school! This is an exciting time for Dr. Nathan Brooks and our Cincinnati family dental practice because we get to see many kids this time of year. Aside from back-to-school shopping and other last-minute school preparations, you should put dental care at the top of your to-do list. Haven’t thought about it before? Think of it this way: What good are new clothes or uniforms and a brand-new backpack without a shiny new smile to go with it?

Back-to-School Gift with Dental Cleaning and Exam

We’re celebrating back to school by offering a free gift for students! For every child who gets a cleaning and exam here at Anderson Dental Care, we’re giving out a free school supply kit! The kits include notebooks, pencils, pens, a ruler, glue, markers, crayons, and more! It’s just one way that we can help alleviate the stress that comes with all the school preparations.

Even more important, this special offer is an opportunity for us to teach your child about their dental health.

Let’s share some information about what your child can expect at his or her back-to-school dental checkup. If you read last month’s blog article on healthy habits for kids, you’ll find even more details here about our treatments we mentioned briefly.

Kids’ Dental Exams and Cleanings in Cincinnati, OH

When your child comes in for their checkup, we’ll treat them just like family! Here at Anderson Dental Care, we care about your oral health, but it goes way beyond that. We want to get to know each of your children individually, just like we get to know all of our patients. That’s what’s kept families coming back to the practice for 30 years! Our goal is to make your smile happy and each patient happy overall!

First, your youngster will get digital X-rays and a cleaning by one of our hygienists. We’ll answer whatever questions they have, and we’ll teach them some great tips about brushing, flossing, and even eating to help keep their teeth disease-free. If you’re new to our family dentist office, Dr. Brooks will also meet your child for the first time and get to know them while providing an exam. We’ll look for tooth decay and signs of other problems.

For older children and teens, we’ll examine their teeth and jaw to determine whether they could benefit from orthodontic treatment. We’ll also keep an eye on their wisdom teeth, which we may recommend an extraction for if the teeth are impacted.

Tooth decay is the most widespread infectious disease for kids in the U.S., more than asthma or anything else. Oral disease not only causes pain and problems eating and speaking, but it can also cause playing and learning issues, as well as time missed at school. We don’t want any of our young patients to experience these problems! That’s why we do all we can to prevent tooth decay.

One of the most common ways we do this is with dental sealants. Check out last month’s blog to learn more about this protective barrier!

Fluoride Treatments

Another way we prevent tooth decay is with fluoride gel. This treatment happens right here in our office and takes only a few minutes. Fluoride is proven to remineralize your teeth enamel, which strengthens that outer layer and keeps bad bacteria at bay. If your child is prone to tooth decay, we might also recommend a fluoride mouthrinse to use at home.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

If we find signs of tooth decay, we’ll make sure to let you know so that we can treat it as soon as possible. We offer tooth-colored fillings at our office so that your child’s peers don’t have to notice anything in their smile. Other benefits of these fillings is that they are less invasive and don’t contain any metal or mercury. They also bond directly to the tooth, whereas metal fillings require part of the tooth to be drilled for preparation.

Oral Health, Better Health, Happy Health!

Giving away these school supplies is just one more way we’re working to make our patients’ lives easier and more enjoyable. We start with their oral health, but we’re always finding other ways to get to know the families that visit us and the community at large!

If you’d like to take advantage of our special back-to-school offer, call us today for an appointment! Make sure your child gets a great start to the school year with a great-looking smile! And don’t forget to ask about our in-house dental plan to help your family pay for their dental care.
