Good childhood habits lead to healthy adult smiles.

Finding a fantastic family-focused dental practice isn’t always easy. Our Cincinnati, OH, office is a stand out because we absolutely love helping kids develop healthy habits that will turn into beautiful adult smiles!

You see, kids want to do things the best way. They are looking for ways to take care of their bodies and do things the “right” way. They want to make you (the parent) happy (most of the time). They just need a little bit of guidance to help them achieve those goals.

When it comes to oral health care, we can help you learn how to train your child at home as well as get them interested in semi-annual appointments! Let us work with you to develop healthy oral health habits!

Helping Kids Build Healthy Habits

We know that the first step to a healthy adult smile is a healthy kid smile. The habits your child is setting now really will determine the habits he has later in life. That’s why it is so important to help your child learn the right techniques and habits as soon as possible. We can help!

Friendly Office – Our office is a very friendly place for kids. We are light-hearted, fun to be around, and kids enjoy coming in! We aren’t going to sit around and lecture your child, but we will make this experience fun and exciting!

Information for Parents – We know that ultimately, you are the best resource for your child. We want to make sure you have all the information you need to help your child grow and develop in the best way possible. If you have a question, all you need to do is ask!

Care for Kids – We genuinely care for the kids who walk through our doors. We see those young smiles, and we get excited for their future smiles! If your child is nervous or worried, we can help them stay calm and learn about the experience so the next time they walk in the door, they won’t feel as anxious!

What You Can Do at Home

We can do a lot during a six month dental cleaning and exam, but you have a lot to do at home, too! After all, you are the person standing next to your child each morning and evening when it’s time to brush teeth. We know it can be tough to create these healthy habits, especially if you haven’t tried before now, but it is possible! Take a few of our favorite tips below to get started!

Brushing Routines – The brushing routine can be a very exciting one! Your child needs to brush for two minutes in the morning and two minutes at night before bed. Make this time lots of fun! You can grab your toothbrush to make it a family affair! Play their favorite song while you brush. Make up your own brushing song and dance. Get everyone involved, and have a great time at the sink!

Flossing Fun – Many kids really struggle to learn to floss. The sensation of the thread on the gums can be too much for some kids. Again, make this time fun. Use special flossers with funny characters or colors, count teeth together as you work through the mouth, tell a story as you floss, or practice deep breathing for a very anxious child. Anything that helps your child move forward in this habit is great!

Encouraging Questions – You are your child’s best resource for everything. He is going to come to you with questions about dental health. Do you best to answer those questions in a positive light! After all, you want your child to have a healthy adult smile, too! When you come in with your child, come back to offer your support. With your encouragement, your child will feel a lot more confident!

Office Procedures

While you’re here at the office, we will recommend certain procedures to keep your child’s smile safe and healthy. Let’s take a look at the most common procedures and how they benefit your favorite smile.

Teeth Cleanings – Just as you come in for your dental cleaning, your child needs the same every six months. The cleaning removes harmful plaque and bacteria from your child’s smile, which will prevent cavities and gum disease infection.

Dental Sealants – Kids are prone to cavities. If your child is having more decay than normal, we might recommend dental sealants. This is a thin protective layer that we paint over your child’s chewing surfaces to protect them from harmful bacteria. The sealant should last several years before needing to be replaced or repaired.

Fluoride Treatments – Fluoride is another tool we use in the fight against decay. A quick fluoride treatment here in the office will strengthen your child’s enamel and keep his smile healthy and strong!
