Night Guards

Grinding and clenching wear down, chip, and crack teeth, usually while you’re asleep and unaware of it. A custom night guard takes that force instead of your teeth.

Signs You May Be Grinding

  • Sore jaw or facial muscles when you wake up
  • Morning headaches, especially around the temples
  • Teeth that look flat, worn, or chipped
  • New sensitivity to hot or cold
  • A partner who hears you grinding at night

Many people learn they grind at a routine exam, when we see wear they hadn’t noticed.

Custom vs. Store-Bought

Drugstore guards are bulky, fit loosely, and often end up in a drawer. A custom guard is made from a mold of your teeth, so it’s thinner, stays in place, and is comfortable enough to wear every night. It also lasts much longer.

What to Expect

We take an impression of your teeth and send it to a dental lab, which makes your guard. When it’s ready, you come back for a short fitting visit so we can adjust it to your bite. Bring it to your regular cleanings and we’ll check it for wear.

Caring for Your Guard

Rinse it each morning, clean it with a soft toothbrush, and let it dry in its case. Keep it away from heat, which can warp it, and out of reach of pets, who love to chew them.
