Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease is common, often painless, and treatable. Catching it early protects the bone that holds your teeth in place.

What Gum Disease Is

When plaque and tartar build up below the gumline, the gums become inflamed and start to pull away from the teeth, forming pockets. Left untreated, the infection breaks down the bone around your teeth, which can eventually make them loose. Most people don’t feel it happening, which is why we measure your gums at regular visits.

Signs to Watch For

  • Gums that bleed when you brush or floss
  • Red, puffy, or tender gums
  • Bad breath that doesn’t go away
  • Gums pulling back from your teeth
  • Teeth that feel loose or have shifted

Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a deep cleaning below the gumline. We remove the tartar and bacteria from the pockets and smooth the root surfaces so the gums can heal and reattach. We can numb the area so you’re comfortable, and treatment is often split into more than one visit.

Keeping It Under Control

Gum disease can be controlled, but it doesn’t go away for good. After treatment, periodontal maintenance visits every few months keep the pockets clean and let us catch any changes early. Patients without insurance can join our periodontal membership, which covers four maintenance visits a year plus 20% off treatment.
